UAE seeking to be top investor in Kurdistan Wednesday, May 19th 2010 6:24 PM Erbil, May 19 (AKnews) – The United Arab Emirates is seeking to become the top investing country in Kurdistan Region after a UAE delegation headed by the country's Foreign Trade Minister visited Kurdistan and examined the security, economy, and geography of the region. Lubna Bint Khaled Al Qasimi, UAE foreign trade minister said Wednesday that they took special interest in Kurdistan Region and wanted to develop bilateral economic, commercial, and political relations. We have decided to facilitate the strengthening of political and economic relations with Kurdistan Region, Al Qasimi told AKnews, before adding that "the stability of Kurdistan is a major factor for UAE investors to come to the region" The minister said the United Arab Emirates was planning to open a consulate in Erbil, the first Arab state to do so. "We will open our consulate in Erbil as soon as possible" "We have seen that Kurdistan Region is a suitable ground for investment as a gate for all Iraq," Al Qasimi noted. The UAE delegation has signed a number of agreements with the Kurdish government for the development of oil and gas, transportation, medicine, tourism and petrochemical sectors in Kurdistan Region by the UAE investors and companies, Qasimi said. The United Arab Emirates is the second country largely engaged in investment in Kurdistan, but is seeking to become the first, according to her. ry AKnews
