Govt. pumps $400 million into agricultural sector Thursday, March 10th 2011 4:42 PM Salahaddin, March 10 (AKnews) - The Iraqi Agriculture Minister said on Thursday that 470 billion Iraqi Dinars ($402.2 million) has been allocated to his ministry this year to develop the country’s agricultural sector. Izzeddine al-Dawla said that the implementation of an irrigation project that employs the latest techniques and covers an area of more than 3 million acres is the first strategic project of the ministry, adding that further investment projects are forecast to help subsidize farmers’ incomes. Dawla expressed however his disappointment with this year’s federal allocation. “The amount allocated to the Agriculture Ministry is not sufficient to address the challenges faced by the sector,” he complained.
